Rachel Brownlee Kurita, M.S., R.D. is the Community Dietitian & CHEF Teaching Kitchen Lead at the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio Mays Family Clubhouse. There, she is piloting the CHEF community curriculum by teaching daily culinary nutrition classes to children from 5 to 18 years old. She also offers classes and counseling for adults and families who are members of the surrounding Lone Star and Collins Garden neighborhoods. Rachel earned a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition at Texas State University. She later completed her dietetic internship through the Graduate Program in Nutrition at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. While at Texas State, Rachel developed an interest in bringing science-based nutrition knowledge to the public. She served as President of Nutrition Education and Outreach at TxSU, an organization she co-founded to increase sound nutrition literacy and practice on the university campus and in the local community. Acknowledging that the importance of good nutrition begins before birth and continues for a lifetime, Rachel seeks to use her practice to empower children and families to make informed nutrition choices, and to nurture a love of cooking and culinary discovery.
