Alexis (Lexi) Phelps is the CHEF and Wellness Programs Specialist at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. In her role at the Garden, she develops, manages, and teaches all CHEF-based cooking classes, field trips, and camps. Lexi graduated from Trinity University as a double major with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Urban Studies with a concentration in Social Policy. While at Trinity University, she interned with the Urban Agriculture department at the San Antonio Food Bank as well as conducted data analysis for multiple different nonprofits across the city. From there, she went on to conduct a 7 month independent research project in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank on food insecurity in San Antonio. Lexi considers this the first step in her personal mission to understand and alleviate food inequality in her community. In addition to her work at the Garden she is also an active board member and the secretary of the San Antonio Food Policy Council and participates in the Mayor’s Fitness Council as a representative of the Garden. Lexi has admired the CHEF organization for a long time and is elated to be a community partner and to bring positive change to the San Antonio food system through education!
